One of our network leaders pointed me in the direction of this addictive site - http://www.freerice.com/
It's very simple: get the right word definition and donate 20 grains of rice to hungry people. I think this learning game is a great way to put into practice the kinds of strategies promoted by the word games in How Do You Mean? which you'll find at http://hdym.londongt.org/
One of my LGT colleagues reported getting up to 3,000 grains of rice. Can you improve on that?
In partnership with the Tate, The Times is promoting a traditional skill. It is inviting young artists between the ages of 11 and 18 to pick up their pencils and do a drawing.
They have to enter a drawing of themselves and they could win the chance to see their work displayed at Tate Modern.
This site aims to bring to bring together (and order) a range of free resources available on the internet, which can be used for teaching maths in primary schools within the UK. (There's also a KS3/4 area.)
An excellent free booklet to download with 20 keys that will encourage students to challenge and develop their thinking and thereby extend their learning.
I was just chatting to a collegue about SODA. It doesnt seem to be as common here in London as in Birmingham.
Miss W Fun Activities aka registration tasks can be anything and everything (from maths grid to Chinese New year activities to what if questions...).
They are really effective and the children love them; within seconds, the children are settled, thinking and recording thing into their FA book... Works like a charm for all children!
At the final session of our learning network someone mentioned a box of questions that they use as extension activities for g&t pupils to dip in and out of as and when needed. I seem to recall that this was available to buy for about £40, but can't remember the name or where to buy from. Any ideas?

Great site
This is a very addictive website - learning new words and donating rice! What a great idea! I think I will be spreading the word on this one.
Fact Monster
Unsure where to put this site as it has some subject specific areas to it - also has age related bits (6-10 years and 11-14 years).
Information overload for kids - kind of an atlas, almanac, dictionary and encyclopaedia all in one - that's its claim, anyway!

Saw some G&T pupils using this site before Easter - they really liked it - what do you think?

Ideas box
